Development Services

The Development Services Department is an important resource for both new and existing businesses. Administering Pickerington’s engineering, permitting, planning, and inspection activities, this department can provide direction on many topics relevant to businesses.

The Building Department

The City of Pickerington Building Department meets with property owners to help them understand the requirements of the building code, reviews submitted plans, issues permits, and inspects structures.

The exact needs of your business, whether you are simply relocating to an existing space and need something such as a new sign or are building from the ground up, will determine the permitting process, time frame, and necessary forms.

Forms and Applications


The Engineering Department reviews, approves, and inspects all work completed within the public right-of-way by private developers and private utilities. The Engineering Department also provides technical support to City Departments, City Council, Boards and Commissions, developers and citizens with respect to engineering studies, development of construction plans, bidding of projects, surveying, land planning, transportation, storm water management, water and wastewater utilities, environmental matters, and construction management.

Planning and Zoning

Pickerington’s Planning and Zoning Department assists applicants throughout the development process and is responsible for reviewing proposed development projects to ensure they meet the standards established in the Planning and Zoning Code.

The City offers Growth Management Meetings on Tuesday afternoons. Please call (614) 833-2204 in advance to schedule a meeting at City offices.

The Planning Department staffs two City boards: Planning Commission and Board of Zoning Appeals.

  • The Planning and Zoning Commission is responsible for reviewing proposals and making recommendations on land use policy and development. The principal activities include review and recommendation on subdivisions and annexations, re-zonings, site plans, comprehensive sign plans, and issuing certificates of appropriateness for commercial projects under the City’s Commercial Design Guidelines.
  • The Board of Zoning Appeals hears variance requests and appeals on technical issues regarding permitted land uses under the Zoning Code.
