REGULAR MEETING
5:30 P.M.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES of February 9, 2005, Regular Meeting. Mr. Malone moved to approve; Mr. Goodrich seconded the motion. Mr. Malone, Ms. Hurley, and Mr. Goodrich voted “Aye.” Motion carried, 3-0.
3. COMMUNITY COMMENTS. Mr. Malone explained the purpose of the Tree Commission to the high school students. Ms. Hurley asked if the students had any questions.
4. REPORTS.
A. Street Tree Report
Mr. Malone asked where the city stands on the brush clean up from the December ice storm. Mr. Ellis stated it was pretty much cleaned up but they are still cleaning up trees.
Mr. Ellis gave the members a copy of the list of trees to be planted in the spring. Mr. Ellis stated he picked a Globe Black Locust tree for the Arbor Day tree.
5. SCHEDULED MATTERS.
A. Tree Preservation Update
Mr. Malone stated that the trees damaged at the area by the Exxon Station were big Black Cherry trees. Mr. Malone stated that he drove around the subdivisions and everything seemed to be okay. Mr. Drobina passed out a copy of Ordinance No. 1266.04.
B. Arboretum.
Mr. Malone explained to the high school students what an Arboretum is. Ms. Hurley asked if Mr. Drobina had found out about the sign to be put at the beginning of Sycamore Park. Mr. Drobina stated that he talked with Steve Carr of the Parks Dept. and Mr. Carr asked if the Tree Commission would wait on ordering the sign until the Parks Master Plan had been approved so all the signs ordered would be the same.
Ms. Hurley asked if Keller Farms had done any work yet. Mr. Drobina stated that they had not but were waiting until the weather cleared up.
Ms. Hurley asked Mr. Ellis if there had been any more vandalism at the Arboretum. Mr. Ellis stated there was a little. Ms. Hurley asked Mr. Drobina about putting up a sign stating vandals would be prosecuted. Mr. Drobina stated that that would be put on the message board when it gets put up in the spring.
C. Arbor Day
Mr. Malone explained Arbor Day to the high school students. Mr. Malone asked if there had been any decisions regarding whom the plaque should be dedicated to.
It was decided that the plaque would be dedicated to Joyce Cleary. Mr. Malone moved to approve; Mr. Goodrich seconded the motion. Mr. Malone, Ms. Hurley, and Mr. Goodrich voted “Aye.” Motion carried, 3-0.
Mr. Malone stated that the Arbor Day celebration would take place on Friday, April 29, 2005 at 7:00 PM down at the Arboretum. Mr. Malone asked that the news release be started and to start the order of the plaque for Ms. Cleary. Ms. Hurley stated that she would locate a scout troop to do the flag ceremony for the celebration.
6. COMMUNICATION
A. Tree Brochure
Mr. Drobina stated that he had contacted a couple of nurseries and they are willing to have the brochures in their stores.
B. Web Site
The tree brochure is on the website.
7. OTHER BUSINESS
Mr. Malone asked Mr. Drobina if he had found out anything about the property that developers were going to be giving the city. Mr. Drobina stated that both of those areas were going to be passive park areas.
Ms. Hurley asked when the add would be placed in the paper regarding an opening on the Tree Commission Committee. Mr. Drobina stated that he spoke with Ms. Yartin and she said that they have one application that will be reviewed.
8. ADJOURNMENT
Their being nothing further, Mr. Malone moved to adjourn, Mr. Goodrich seconded the motion. Mr. Malone, Mr. Goodrich, and Ms. Hurley voted “Aye.” Motion carried, 3-0. The Tree Commission adjourned at 5:54 P.M. on March 9, 2005.
