REGULAR MEETING
5:30 P.M.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES of March 9, 2005, Regular Meeting. Mr. Malone moved to approve; Mr. Goodrich seconded the motion. Mr. Malone, Ms. Hurley, and Mr. Goodrich voted “Aye.” Motion carried, 3-0.
3. COMMUNITY COMMENTS. Ms. Hurley explained the purpose of the Tree Commission to the high school students and invited them to the Arbor Day Celebration on April 29, 2005 at 7:00 PM.
4. REPORTS.
A. Street Tree Report
Mr. Drobina stated that we are still doing brush pick up.
Ms. Hurley asked if Mr. Drobina was aware of BK Tree Service and what they were used for? Mr. Drobina stated that they met with BK because of the really tall trees at the Service Department with tree damage and they were to give us a quote. Mr. Drobina stated that nothing has been done with that so far.
Mr. Drobina stated that Mr. Ellis started taking delivery for the Spring tree planting. He will be planting 242 trees. Mr. Malone asked what area the city was concentrating on for the spring planting. Mr. Drobina stated there were several different developments – Village of Sycamore Creek, Preston Trails, Fox Glen, mainly new build areas. Mr. Drobina continued that there are a few replacement areas that need trees also.
Mr. Goodrich asked if the Arbor Day tree had been delivered. Mr. Drobina stated that it should be on the delivery that just came in.
5. SCHEDULED MATTERS.
A. Tree Preservation Update
No comments made.
B. Arboretum.
Mr. Drobina stated that the message board has been put up and a tree brochure and the vandalism ordinance is on the message board. Mr. Drobina asked Keller Farms not to start working on the flowers at the arboretum unless they could finish by the Arbor Day Celebration and they stated they would wait to start after Arbor Day.
Ms. Hurley suggested that we get a trash receptacle put in because she saw lots of trash lying around while she was taking a walk.
Ms. Hurley stated she would find out this week which troop would do the flag presentation so that the Arbor Day plaque could be ordered and information about the Arbor Day Celebration can be placed in the local newspapers.
Ms. Hurley stated that an Eagle Scout contacted her and asked if we needed any help down at the arboretum. Mr. Drobina stated that was fine with the city. Ms. Hurley stated that he would meet with the Tree Commission and come up with a plan of several things he would like to do.
C. Arbor Day
Mr. Malone asked if the Proclamation reading was scheduled for the next council meeting. Mr. Drobina stated that Ms. Schwartz said she had everything ready for the council meeting.
6. COMMUNICATION
A. Tree Brochure
Ms. Hurley asked if we had gotten any response from putting the tree brochure out at the nurseries in the area. Mr. Drobina stated that he had not heard anything but there are still some nurseries we have not delivered to yet.
B. Web Site
The tree brochure is on the website.
7. OTHER BUSINESS
Mr. Drobina stated that on Monday, April 18th at 4:00 PM Lifeline of Ohio is going to have a ceremony down at Sycamore Park and plant an Oak tree. They are doing that because so many people at the BMV in Pickerington have signed up for donorship.
Mr. Malone asked if we got the additional information for registering for Tree City. Mr. Drobina stated he would check with Mr. Ellis and get back with him.
Mr. Goodrich asked if it had been decided who the new Tree Commission member would be. Mr. Drobina stated the new members name is Carol Carter and she will be at the May 11 meeting.
Mr. Malone stated that the Urban Forestry group is going to have a summer conference Thursday, July 28 at the Conservation Center out of Madison County where they have the Farm Science Fair every year. Mr. Malone stated that it is a very good program and definitely recommends it.
8. ADJOURNMENT
Their being nothing further, Mr. Malone moved to adjourn, Mr. Goodrich seconded the motion. Mr. Malone, Mr. Goodrich, and Ms. Hurley voted “Aye.” Motion carried, 3-0. The Tree Commission adjourned at 6:00 P.M. on April 13, 2005.
