REGULAR MEETING
5:30 P.M.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES of May 11, 2005, Regular Meeting. Mr. Malone moved to approve; Ms. Carter seconded the motion. Mr. Malone, Mr. Goodrich and Ms. Carter voted “Aye.” Motion carried, 3-0.
3. COMMUNITY COMMENTS. Mia Briggs, Alicia’s mother, presented approval from the Girl Scout Council to allow Alicia to earn her Gold Award by working down at the Arboretum. Ms. Briggs stated that Alicia would be planting wildflowers, weeding the garden and building and putting in birdhouses. Mr. Drobina suggested maybe building a bat house for mosquito control. Mr. Drobina suggested that Alicia contact Mr. Ellis or himself when it comes time to put in the poles.
Mr. Goodrich stated he would like a motion to approve the project presented. Mr. Malone moved to approve; Ms. Carter seconded the motion. Mr. Goodrich, Mr. Malone and Ms. Carter voted “Aye.” Motion carried, 3-0.
4. REPORTS.
A. Street Tree Report
Mr. Goodrich asked if there was still brush to be picked up from the ice storm in December. Mr. Ellis stated they are still picking up brush. Mr. Goodrich asked what has to be figured out for planting at the Police Department. Mr. Ellis stated that he has to decide where exactly the 23 trees will be planted.
Mr. Malone asked if they were able to get the tree from the Milnor’s yet? Mr. Drobina stated that the tree is in the house so he has been unable to get the tree as of yet because no one has been there. Mr. Malone stated that they wanted to dedicate a tree in memory of Mr. Milnor and plant it in the arboretum. Mr. Malone stated that they did not have a specific place in the arboretum that they wanted it planted.
Mr. Goodrich asked if the City had any complaints about feral cats down at the arboretum. Mr. Goodrich stated he saw two cats in one tree when he was down there and they will jump at you. Mr. Ellis stated that he has not received any complaints about the cats.
5. SCHEDULED MATTERS.
A. Tree Preservation Update
Mr. Malone stated that there was a request from P & Z to look at a set of plans for expansion at the Kroger-Miller property area. He continued that he did look at the plans but hasn’t commented back to them yet.
Ms. Carter stated council is talking about a speed limit change on Hill Rd. by the high school and they talked about removing some trees so that they could see to the bottom of the hill.
B. Arboretum.
Mr. Goodrich stated that the steps have been put in at the arboretum and it looks really nice. Mr. Drobina stated that Keller Farms would be back to put in the stepping stones and should be finished within the next few days.
6. COMMUNICATION
No comments.
7. OTHER BUSINESS
Mr. Goodrich stated that Mr. Malone had passed out information about the tree care conference. Mr. Malone stated he would check with ODNR to find out if there is a cost and if people should be registered ahead of time.
Mr. Malone stated that Anita Carter, Margie Milnor’s daughter called him about the interest the city has shown in purchasing the Milnor property in the future. He continued that Steve Carr from the Parks Dept. is in the process of taking a look at the property.
8. ADJOURNMENT
Their being nothing further, Mr. Malone moved to adjourn, Ms. Carter seconded the motion. Mr. Malone, Mr. Goodrich and Ms. Carter voted “Aye.” Motion carried, 3-0. The Tree Commission adjourned at 6:10 P.M. on June 8, 2005.
