TREE COMMISSION
CITY HALL, 100
LOCKVILLE ROAD
WEDNESDAY,
FEBRUARY 8, 2006
REGULAR MEETING
5:30 P.M.
A. Street Tree Report
Mr. Goodrich asked Mr. Ellis if the bagworms were a real problem because of the warmth of the winter. Mr. Ellis stated the problem would be in the spring so they make sure they pull them off during the winter.
5. SCHEDULED MATTERS.
A. Tree Preservation Update
Mr. Malone stated that 4 different plat plans or zoning changes scattered various places around the city none of which have any important impact on existing trees including Embroidery Barn’s lot expansion to the new township offices on Stemen & Pickerington Road. Mr. Malone also stated that some of the development proposed is just south of Kohl’s near where Picktown Beverage is and at the new Diley intersection at Hill Rd.
Mr. Malone stated there has been some clearing going on over at Preston Trails.
B. Arboretum.
Mr. Goodrich explained to the high school students where the Arboretum is located.
Mr. Goodrich asked if there had been any vandalism going on and Mr. Ellis stated that the sign was vandalized again.
Mr. Ellis stated that he finished putting out all the nametags on the trees.
6. COMMUNICATION
Mr. Goodrich checked the Service Committee minutes and nothing was discussed about the request regarding Margie Milnor becoming an honorary member. Mr. Drobina stated that he asked Ms. Yartin before the meeting about that and Ms. Yartin stated there is no policy in place to have an honorary member. Mr. Malone asked if there was anything that prevents us from creating that. Mr. Drobina stated that Ms. Yartin said she didn’t know how we could set that up because you have to be a city resident to be on the committee.
7. OTHER BUSINESS
Ms. Carter asked if there was anyway to do a hook up to a PDF file for the Tree Maintenance report and just click on that to read the report. Mr. Drobina stated that he would check and see whether that could be done.
A student asked Mr. Goodrich which trees the City does not allow to be planted. Mr. Goodrich stated that there are some trees that can become problems as far as their root systems and could lift up the sidewalks or break the curbing. Mr. Goodrich stated that you may plant those types of trees in your yard if you don’t mind dealing with the problems.
8. ADJOURNMENT
Their being nothing further, Mr. Goodrich moved to adjourn, Mr. Malone seconded the motion. Mr. Goodrich, Mr. Malone, and Ms. Carter voted “Aye.” Motion carried, 3-0. The Tree Commission adjourned at 5:45 P.M. on February 8, 2006.
RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED:
