A. Street Tree Report
Mr. Goodrich asked whether the trees on the list were taken down or were under contract to be taken down. Mr. Ellis stated they were under contract to be taken down. Mr. Goodrich asked whether any special traffic control would be needed while the trees were being taken down because the streets are so narrow. Mr. Ellis stated that city workers will do traffic control on Center Street. Mr. Goodrich asked whether dates were set to remove the trees. Mr. Ellis stated no dates were set yet. Mr. Goodrich asked if there was any sidewalk damage because of the tree roots. Mr. Ellis stated that on Church Street the sidewalk is cracked and the city will repair that if the tree roots caused the cracking. Ms. Hurley stated that the report shows that the Center Street residents were keeping the firewood. Mr. Ellis stated that the residents wanted the wood. Mr. Ellis stated they have the option of retaining the wood.
5. SCHEDULED MATTERS.
A. Tree Preservation Update
Mr. Malone stated that he just received information about an area behind Kohl’s. He continued the Planning & Zoning Director is requesting that the commissioners take a look at the area by Fairfield Square Condominiums behind Kohl’s that has storm runoff problems that need fixed. Mr. Malone stated that the report shows the solution being to uproot 17 trees. Mr. Goodrich asked whether a meeting should be set up to meet and look at the area in question. Mr. Malone stated that a time should be set next week for the Tree Commissioners, Gregg Ellis, and Brenda VanCleave, the staff engineer, to look at the area in question and discuss the options.
Mr. Malone stated that the Preston Trails extension has left most of the pine forest area intact. Mr. Malone stated there is nothing new on the Diley Road extension. Mr. Drobina stated there are no plans to plant trees on Diley Road. Mr. Malone stated that there are federal grants to help with landscaping and the city needs to look for those grants and apply for them.
B. Arboretum.
Mr. Ellis stated that people are still vandalizing the tree nametags. Ms. Hurley asked if Keller Farms had ever gotten over to the Arboretum to pull the weeds out of the flowerbeds. Ms. Hurley stated she would rather have no flowers there then have it covered in weeds. Mr. Drobina stated Keller Farms is no longer doing that work and he would see about getting one of the summer helpers to pull the weeds in the flower beds.
6. COMMUNICATION
Mr. Malone stated that he attended the Ohio Plant Diagnostic Workshop. He stated that the first part of the workshop was an update on the Emerald Ash Borer and the 2nd part of the workshop was about discovering plant and tree diseases and diagnosing them.
