REGULAR MEETING

7:30 P.M.

 

 

 

1.                  ROLL CALL.   Ms. Shankland called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. with roll call as follows:  Mr. Boetcher, Ms. Shankland, Ms. Phelps, Mr. Campbell and Ms. Riggs were present.  Others present were, Steve Carr and Sandy Whittington. 

 

2.                  APPROVAL OF MINUTES of  March  24, 2003, Regular Meeting.  Ms. Phelps moved to approve; Mr. Boetcher seconded the motion:  Mr. Boetcher, Ms. Shankland, Ms. Phelps, Mr. Campbell and Ms. Riggs voted  “Aye”.  Motion carried 5-0.

 

3.                  COMMUNITY COMMENTS. -  None

 

 

 

 

4.                  DIRECTOR’S REPORT.  -   

Mr. Carr reported that the sod had been laid for the Gazebo landscape project, and the project should be completed in May with the planting of annuals.

 

The staff continues to work on the parks master plan.

 

The white barn in Sycamore Park is being painted, and the Ohio Bicentennial Logo will painted on the barn the first week of May.

 

The City Manager is reviewing  the modular equipment bid for the skate park.  Bid specs for the concrete pad are being prepared by Stilson Consulting Group.  The park should be ready to open this fall in the lower level of Sycamore Park.  Mr. Carr explained that the skate park will be located to the left of covered bridge lane, but before the soccer field.  Mr. Carr noted that there are advantages at that site – it is centrally located, and already has parking, a water fountain, and restrooms.  Mr. Carr continued that he is looking into the possibility of a security camera.

                        Mr. Carr stated that the summer brochure would be delivered to residents via the This Week in Pickerington newspaper on May 8.  Registration for city resident will be May 8 & 9, open registration will begin May 12.  Mr. Carr continued that the Friday Flicks will begin on June 13 and the Sundays @ Sycamore concert series will begin June 15. 

 

 

 

5.                  NEW BUSINESS.     

Ms. Riggs stated that Willow Pond has seen an increase in traffic around the pond and there are no trash containers or benches in the area.  Mr. Carr stated that Ms. Bushman had already brought the trash containers and benches to his attention and those should be ordered this week.  Ms. Riggs continued that the fountain is not on and the walking path around the pond is in need of repair.  Mr. Carr stated that the fountain is winterized each year and there is a company that takes care of that along with an algae treatment.  Ms. Riggs inquired about the distance of the walking path around the pond.  Mr. Carr stated that he would have it measured.  Ms. Riggs also reports that two trees were damages by a car and wondered if they would be replaced.  Mr. Carr said he would check of it.

 

6.         OTHER BUSINESS

A.     Skate Park Update – see Director’s Report.

 

Ms. Shankland inquired if anything had been done to replace Mr. Roberts and Ms. Phelps, noting that this would be the last meeting for Ms. Phelps.  Mr. Carr stated that he believes there has been some previous interest, but that the Municipal Clerk needs a formal letter of resignation from each. Ms. Phelps stated that she brought her letter of resignation in tonight.  Ms. Shankland stated that there would be no May meeting, due to the Memorial Day holiday.

 

Ms. Shankland inquired about the Wolfe property between the High School and the Jr. High School.  Mr. Carr stated that the City is applying for funding to acquire the land and develop it as a passive park.  Ms. Shankland also inquired about Hickory Lakes.  Mr. Carr stated that he does not have the details on Hickory Lakes.

     7.    COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE’S REPORT –  Ms. Riggs reported that the         Natures Work grant passed its first reading at Council, to move forward in applying for the grant for the Handicapped Garden. 

 

                 

 

  1.       ADJOURNMENT – There being nothing further, Mr. Campbell moved to           adjourn; Mr. Boetcher seconded the motion. The Meeting of the Parks & Recreation Board adjourned at 8:20 p.m., April 28, 2003.
