REGULAR MEETING
7:30 P.M.
1. ROLL CALL. Ms. Hammond called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M. Roll call was taken with Ms. Green, Ms. Hammond, Mr. Boetcher, and Mr. Pawlowski present. Mr. Frazier was absent. Others present were: Steve Carr and Krista Tuttle.
2. APPROVAL OF
MINUTES OF September 24, 2007, Regular Meeting.
Ms. Green moved to approve; Mr. Boetcher seconded the motion. Ms. Green, Ms. Hammond, Mr. Boetcher, and Mr.
Pawlowski voted “Aye.” Motion
carried, 4-0.
3. COMMUNITY COMMENTS. None.
4. PARK DEVELOPMENT / IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS.
A. Disc Golf Course – Update – T-pads and baskets have all been installed.
B. Simsbury Park Entrance/Parking Lot – Update – Mr. Carr reported that the grass seeding and mulching will be done by the City of Pickerington Staff. This will allow the project come in at the budgeted amount.
C. 2008 Capital Improvements Plan – The plan is still being reviewed by the City Manager and will be deferred until the November 2007 Parks and Recreation Board meeting.
5. RECREATION AND EVENTS. Mr. Carr reported that the staff is preparing for the Winter 2008 brochure. The brochures will be mailed December 10, 2007 which is earlier than planned. The Parks and Recreation Department’s operating budget for 2008 will reflect less than a 3% increase. Mr. Carr was confident that the department can continue to service the community with this increase. Mr. Carr reminded the board about the annual Haunted Village which will include ghost tours, the haunted house, interactive booths, food vendors and more.
6. JOINT PARK DISTRICT DISCUSSION. At the September meeting Ms. Green asked for information regarding revenues and operating expenses for recreation centers located in communities similar in size to Pickerington. Mr. Carr provided the board with operating budgets, revenue reports, and other fiscal information on the Village of Groveport, the City of Westerville and the City of Dublin.
7. OTHER BUSINESS. Mr. Boetcher asked if there was a plan to establish a dog park in the city. Mr. Carr said a dog park had been discussed but the residents had not supported the idea. Mr. Pawlowski reported on his research for setting up a clean up the parks project. The Keep America Beautiful organization could not provide any resources but could provide the city with some processes to use in conjunction with their March 1st-May 31st campaign. However, the Ohio River Sweep group could possibly offer some support. The Ohio River Sweep is scheduled for June 16th.
8. ADJOURNMENT. There being nothing further, Ms. Green moved to adjourn; Mr. Boetcher seconded the motion. Ms. Green, Ms. Hammond, Mr. Boetcher and Mr. Pawlowski voted “Aye.” Motion carried, 4-0. The Parks and Recreation Board meeting adjourned at 8:25 P.M., October 22, 2007.
