TREE COMMISSION

CITY HALL, 100 LOCKVILLE ROAD

THURSDAY, APRIL 10, 2008

REGULAR MEETING

6:00 P.M.

 

  1. ROLL CALL.  Mr. McKinley called the meeting to order at 6:05 P.M., with roll call as follows:  Ms. Carter, Mr. McKinley and Ms. Shelts were present.  Mr. Goodrich and Mr. Malone were absent.  Edward Drobina, Gregg Ellis, Diana Fuller and Scout Troop 1147 Leader David Hobson were also present.

 

  1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES of March 13, 2008, Regular Meeting.  Ms. Shelts moved to approve; Ms. Carter seconded the motion.   Ms. Carter, Mr. McKinley and Ms. Shelts voted “Aye”.  Motion carried, 3-0.

 

  1. COMMUNITY COMMENTS.  No comments. 

 

  1. REPORTS.   

A.                 Street Tree Report

Mr. Drobina stated that they have started the spring tree planting.  Mr. Ellis stated 26 trees have been planted.

 

     5.    SCHEDULED MATTERS.

                  A.        Tree Preservation Update

No comments.

 

B.                 Tree Data Base

Ms. Carter asked how the entering of data was going.  Mr. Drobina stated that he has entered everything that has been planted.  Ms. Carter asked if the trees that have been removed had been entered.  Mr. Drobina stated he would go through Mr. Ellis’ reports to find the trees that have been removed and enter them into the database. 

 

C.                 Arboretum.

Ms. Carter asked if a spot had been chosen to plant the Arbor Day Tree.  Mr. Ellis stated he has chosen a place. 

 

D.                 City Beautification Campaign.

Mr. McKinley stated the Pickerington Clean-Up Day is scheduled for Saturday April 26.  Mr. McKinley encouraged everyone to go out and support that.  Mr. McKinley stated he would see how the turnout for the clean-up day goes and then talk with the Parks Department on the 28th and see if they would like to get together and do a fall clean-up day also.   


 

                 E.     Arbor Day.

Mr. Hobson asked what exactly did Scout Troop 1147 need to do for the Arbor Day celebration.  Mr. McKinley stated they would need to bring the flags and lead the Pledge of Allegiance.  Ms. Shelts stated that last year one scout member read a poem about the type of tree that was planted.  Mr. Drobina stated that the troop also helps shovel the dirt back around the tree.  Ms. Carter stated that the Mayor would be there along with members of City Council and also the Violet Township Trustees.  Ms. Carter stated that a reporter from the newspaper would also be attending the ceremony.  Mr. Hobson stated that along with his scout troop, parents of the troop members would also be attending. 

 

Mr. McKinley stated he would give the words of welcome.  Ms. Shelts stated she would talk about the history of the Red Bud tree.  It was decided that Mr. Malone would give the dedication of the Tree City USA award.

  1. OTHER BUSINESS.  No comments. 

 

    8.     ADJOURNMENT

            Their being nothing further, Ms. Carter moved to adjourn.  Ms. Carter, Mr. McKinley and Ms. Shelts voted “Aye.”  Motion carried, 3-0.  The Tree Commission adjourned at 6:26 P.M. on April 10, 2008.
