TREE COMMISSION

THURSDAY, JUNE 12, 2008

REGULAR MEETING

6:00 P.M.

 

  1. ROLL CALL.  Mr. McKinley called the meeting to order at 6:03 P.M., with roll call as follows:  Mr. Goodrich, Ms. Carter, Mr. McKinley and Mr. Malone were present.  Ms. Shelts was absent.  Edward Drobina, Gregg Ellis, Mrs.Goodrich and Angie Perrine were also present.

 

  1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES of May 8, 2008, Regular Meeting.  Mr. Malone moved to approve; Mr. Goodrich seconded the motion.  Mr. Malone, Mr. Goodrich, Ms. Carter and Mr. McKinley voted “Aye”.  Motion carried, 4-0.

 

  1. COMMUNITY COMMENTS.  No comments. 

 

  1. REPORTS.   

A.                 Street Tree Report

Mr. Malone asked what the situation was with the bagworms this year.  Gregg Ellis stated the bagworms are in the same locations as last year.    Mr. Goodrich questioned about the bugs.  Gregg Ellis stated this is also about the same amount as last year.

 

     5.    SCHEDULED MATTERS.

                  A.        Tree Preservation Update

No comments.

 

B.                 Tree Data Base

Mr. Drobina stated he was working on updating Data Base. 

 

C.                 Arboretum.

Mr. McKinley stated thank you to all the volunteers for cleaning up the island and for planting the flowers.  

 

D.                 City Beautification Campaign.

Ms. Carter stated the contest ends in July.   

 

  1. COMMUNICATION.  Ms. Carter asked the question regarding neighbors dead trees and branches in other neighbors yards.  Who is responsible for the clean-up?  Mr. Drobina stated he would check with the City Code Enforcer, Danny Mahaffey.  Ms. Carter asked is the property owner responsible for replacement of sidewalks when it is damaged by a city planted tree.  Mr. Drobina stated he would e-mail the city attorney to find out the answer.

 

 

  1. OTHER BUSINESS.  Mr. Goodrich asked about saving the Ash Trees in the community. Gregg Ellis stated still in experimental stages.  Mr. Malone stated that there is a new serum that can be injected into the tree like an I.V. 

 

     8.     ADJOURNMENT

            Their being nothing further, Mr. Goodrich moved to adjourn, Ms. Carter seconded the motion.  Mr. Goodrich, Ms. Carter, Mr. McKinley and Mr. Malone voted “Aye.”  Motion carried, 4-0.  The Tree Commission adjourned at 6:15 P.M. on June 12, 2008.
