REGULAR MEETING

6:00 P.M.

 

  1. ROLL CALL.  Mr. McKinley called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M., with roll call as follows: Mr. Goodrich, Ms. Carter, Mr. McKinley and Mr. Malone were present.  Ms. Shelts was absent.  Mrs. Goodrich, Edward Drobina and Angie Perrine were also present.

 

  1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES of December 11, 2008, Regular Meeting.  Ms. Carter moved to approve; Mr. McKinley seconded the motion.  Ms. Carter, Mr. McKinley, Mr. Malone and Mr. Goodrich voted “Aye”.  Motion carried, 4-0.

 

  1. ORGANIZATIONAL MEETING.

A motion was made by Ms. Carter to amend tonight’s agenda to add the organizational meeting for which new chairman and vice chairman needed to be elected.  Mr. McKinley seconded the motion.  Ms. Carter, Mr. McKinley, Mr. Malone and Mr. Goodrich voted “Aye”.  Motion carried, 4-0.

 

After discussion, Mr. McKinley moved to appoint Ms. Carter to be Chairman for the 2009 calendar year.  Mr. Malone seconded the motion.  Ms. Carter, Mr. McKinley, Mr. Malone and Mr. Goodrich voted “Aye”.  Motion carried, 4-0.

 

After discussion Ms. Carter moved to appoint Mr. Malone to be Vice Chairman for the 2009 calendar year.  Mr. McKinley seconded the motion.  Ms. Carter, Mr. Malone, Mr. McKinley and Mr. Goodrich voted “Aye”.  Motion carried, 4-0.

 

Mr. Goodrich asked if the Tree Commission would like to look into changing the day and time that they meet.  Mr. McKinley suggested meeting before the Parks & Recreation meetings on the last Monday of the month.  Mr. Goodrich replied that he liked that idea.  Mr. McKinley stated his only question is what if the Parks meeting is changed to a different day and time.  Mr. McKinley moved to change the Tree Commission meeting to the 4th Monday of the month at 6:30 p.m.  Mr. Malone seconded the motion.  Ms. Carter, Mr. McKinley, Mr. Goodrich and Mr. Malone voted “Aye”.  Motion carried, 4-0.  Mr. McKinley reminded everyone that February’s meeting is cancelled, and the next time the commission would meet will be on March 23, 2009 at 6:30 p.m.   A discussion was held in regards to attending some Parks & Recreation meetings.  Ms. Carter suggested that they might be able to help each other out.  Parks might be able to help out with the data on the damage being done to the plaques in the park.  Ms. Carter stated that a lot of damage seems to be done during the spring just before school lets out.

  1. REPORTS.   
    1. Street Tree Report

Mr. Drobina stated that the school bus company called and asked that the trees in Pickerington Hills be trimmed because they were scraping the buses.  Ms. Carter replied that it was very late in the year.  Mr. Drobina replied that the Arborist, Mr. Ellis was stilling planting some fall trees and should finish up this week.  Ms. Carter asked if there had been any damage done by the winter storm.  Mr. Drobina replied he didn’t recall any damage. 

 

     6.    SCHEDULED MATTERS.

                  a.   Tree Preservation Update. 

No comments.

 

    1. Tree Data Base.

Ms. Carter asked Mr. Drobina how the data base is coming along.  Mr. Drobina replied that he was trying.  Mr. Goodrich asked if the software was  working all right for him.  Mr. Drobina replied, yes.  As soon as Mr. Ellis finishes planting the fall trees I will get the list from him and update the database.

 

    1.   Arboretum.

            No comments.

 

    1. City Beautification Campaign.

Mr. McKinley stated he had no news on this issue and no further research has been done on this matter since the last time they had met.  Mr. Goodrich asked if another date had been picked for the city clean-up day.  Mr. McKinley commented he thought it was usually in late April.  He will give the city code enforcer a call to find out more information.

 

 

  1. COMMUNICATION.    No comments.

 

 

  1. OTHER BUSINESS.  Mr. McKinley asked if they wanted to talk about possible                                     nominations for the Arbor Day.  Mr. Malone stated that was a good idea since we are not meeting in February.  Mr. McKinley questioned who had the contact person information for the Boy Scout Troop.  Ms. Carter replied that she had the contact information.  She was told that the Boy Scout Troop would like to help every year with Arbor Day and she would give them a call.

 

Mr. McKinley questioned if Mr. Ellis had picked out a tree for Arbor Day.  Mr. Drobina stated he would get that information.

 

Ms. Carter asked if anyone had given thoughts on the dedication.  Mr. McKinley responded what about the Eagle Scouts who helped with the tree planting for the past two years.  Mr. Drobina stated he was thinking about this today and thought Diane Fuller.  Mr. Goodrich replied that was a very good idea.  Mr. Malone stated she always attends the ceremonies and he also felt this was a good idea.  After some discussions it was decided that they would talk more about this next meeting and that the Arbor Day ceremony should be on Friday, April 24th at 7:00 p.m.                                                                                                  

                                                                                                                                                                                        

     9.    ADJOURNMENT. 

            Their being nothing further, Ms. Carter moved to adjourn, Mr. Malone  seconded the motion.  Mr. McKinley, Ms. Carter, Mr. Malone and Mr. Goodrich voted “Aye.”  Motion carried, 4-0.  The Tree Commission adjourned at 6:20 P.M. on January 8, 2009.
