PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
CITY HALL,
MONDAY, OCTOBER 26, 2009
REGULAR MEETING
1. ROLL CALL. Mr. Pawlowski called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m. Present were Ms. Carter, Mr. Boetcher, Mr. Pawlowski, Ms. Sanders. Also present were parks and recreation director Mr. Carr, service manager Mr. Drobina, and three students from Pickerington High School Central. Absent: Ms. Green and Ms. Hammond. Mr. Carr said that he had received an email from Ms. Green stating that she was resigning from the board effective today.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES. Mr. Boetcher moved to accept the September minutes. Seconded by Ms. Carter. Mr. Pawlowski noted that Ms. Sanders had abstained from voting to approve the August minutes, which was confirmed by Ms. Sanders. Ms. Carter, Mr. Pawlowski, Mr. Boetcher, and Ms. Sanders, all aye. The motion passed 4-0.
3. COMMUNITY COMMENTS. None.
4. REPORTS.
PARKS AND
RECREATION DIRECTOR’S REPORT. Mr. Carr
stated that he had distributed a copy of his written report to Safety Committee
and would be happy to answer any questions that the board might have. He also noted the following Community Pool
fall improvement projects were now completed: new perimeter fence (except
bottom rail) and new exterior doors. Mr.
Carr thanked service manager
COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVE’S REPORT. Ms. Sanders stated that she had spoken briefly to the school superintendent and township trustee Terry Dunlap, but didn’t have anything specific to report regarding a possible joint park district.
5. BOARD
DISCUSSION ITEMS. Mr. Boetcher moved to hold a joint work session with the Tree
Commission at 7:00 p.m. on November 23.
Seconded by Ms. Sanders. Mr. Pawlowski, Ms. Carter, Mr. Boetcher,
and Ms. Sanders, all aye. The motion
passed 4-0. Members agreed to exchange
ideas for work session agenda items via email.
6. OTHER BUSINESS. Mr. Pawlowski reported that the new community garden was successful. Twenty-some gardeners participated and several plots were donated to individuals and groups who raised vegetables for the food pantry. October 31 is the deadline for harvesting crops after which a cover crop will be planted. Mr. Pawlowski has volunteered to conduct community gardening workshops in the winter.
Ms. Carter mentioned Disney’s volunteer program for youth, age 6-17 accompanied by a parent. Mr. Pawlowski asked Ms. Carter to bring the idea to the joint work session.
7. ADJOURNMENT. Mr. Botcher moved to adjourn. Seconded by Ms. Sanders. Mr. Pawlowski adjourned the meeting at 8:00 p.m.
