COUNCIL WORK SESSION

7:00 P.M.

1.         CALL TO ORDER:  Mayor O’Brien opened the Council Work Session at 7:00 P.M., with the following council members present:  Mrs. Sanders, Mr. Blair, Mr. Sauer, Mrs. Hammond, Mr. Barletta, Mr. Wisniewski, and Mayor O’Brien.  Mr. Fix was absent.  Others present were:  Chief Taylor, Lynda Yartin, Ed Drobina, Chris Schornack, Greg Bachman, Nate Ellis, Andy Hunyadi, and others.

2.         SCHEDULED MATTERS:

A.        Presentation by Kurt Keljo, MORPC, on Watershed Action Plan.  Mr. Keljo stated he appreciated Pickerington’s support of the Watershed Action Plan process and he was present to share what they have come up with.  Mr. Keljo stated a watershed divides where the water flows.  He stated water flows from the smaller streams to the larger streams and eventually the water from Blacklick flows into the Mississippi watershed and into the Gulf of Mexico.

Mr. Keljo gave a brief power point presentation on the watershed and stated he would answer any questions Council may have.  Mr. Wisniewski ascertained that Mr. Keljo was looking for the support of Council and his hope is that he can keep people in conversation about the creek and a commitment to continue to be a part of the conversation on issues facing the creek.

Mayor O’Brien clarified that Mr. Keljo understood the difference between what was in the City and what was in Violet Township.  Mr. Keljo stated he understood and the bad examples he had shown were located in Violet Township and not the City of Pickerington.  Mayor O’Brien stated in our planning and zoning process there is a requirement for setbacks and buffering along the streams.  Mayor O’Brien further stated we have a volunteer program in the City and one of the projects they were looking at was to go from one end of Sycamore Park up to the high school through Victory Park and make the creek accessible by cutting the underbrush, etc.  He questioned if that was something Mr. Keljo would advise us on or be involved in before anything was done as we want to preserve and restore the creek as best we can.  Mr. Keljo stated he would be happy to do that.

3.         ADJOURNMENT.  There being nothing further, Mayor O’Brien closed the Council Work Session closed at 7:18 P.M., June 15, 2010.

RESPECTFULLY SUBMITTED:
