B. Arboretum.
Mr. Malone stated that they had talked about doing a dedication. Mr. Malone suggested doing it this Fall or next Spring. Ms. Cleary stated that with the work that still needs to be finished it might be best to wait until next Spring. Ms. Cleary stated that they had discussed grading of the hill, getting birdhouses out there, wildflowers and a butterfly garden. Ms. Hurley stated that they had also discussed terracing on the north side. Ms. Cleary asked for a new copy of the budget to see what money is available for what they want to do. Mr. Drobina stated that he would get a printout of the updated budget.
Ms. Cleary suggested meeting down at the Arboretum to better assess what they want to do and where. It was decided to meet at the Arboretum on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at 5:30 PM.
6. COMMUNICATION
A. Tree Brochure
Ms. Cleary stated that the arrows under the drawing should be taken out. Ms. Hurley suggested the box around “undisturbed soil” should be deleted. Ms. Cleary suggested that the root flare trunk be made clearer in the drawing. Ms. Cleary also asked if the Tree City logo could be made a little less fuzzy. Mr. Malone suggested taking out the copyright notice if possible. Mr. Ellis stated that in the Planting & Care section, the phrase “do not water if soil is wet or even damp” should be bolded.
Mr. Malone asked how many copies of the brochure should be made. Mr. Drobina stated he would find out the cost of printing the brochure and they could decide how many copies to make. Mr. Malone continued that brochures would be needed at the Service Department, City Hall, and the Building Dept. Ms. Cleary suggested making copies for some of the local nurseries in town.
B. Web Site
Mr. Drobina stated that the tree brochure would be put on the web site when it is finalized.
7. OTHER BUSINESS
Mr. Malone stated that there is no provision for tree planting as part of the overall Long Road project. Mr. Malone continued ODOT sometimes provides funds for those projects but council may think that the Tree Commission can pay for that with their budget. Mr. Malone continued that the Tree Commission doesn’t have the money for that project and asked how he should proceed? Mr. Drobina stated that Mr. Malone should write a memo to the Service Committee to address his concerns.
