REGULAR MEETING AGENDA

7:30 P.M.

 

 

1.         ROLL CALL.  Mr. Campbell called the meeting to order at 7:30 P.M.  Roll call was taken with Mrs. Ball, Mrs. Shankland, Mr. Boetcher, and Mr. Campbell present.  Mr. Frazier was absent.  Others present were:  Steve Carr and Lynda Yartin. 

 

2.         APPROVAL OF MINUTES OF June 28, 2004, Regular Meeting.  Mrs. Shankland moved to approve; Mr. Boetcher seconded the motion.  Mr. Campbell, Mr. Boetcher, Mrs. Shankland, and Mrs. Ball voted “Aye.”  Motion carried, 4-0. 

 

3.         COMMUNITY COMMENTS:  None.

 

4.         PARK DEVELOPMENT/IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS:

 

A.        Parks Master Plan – Update.  Mr. Carr stated he would have the Parks Facilities Inventory in packets for the Safety Committee meeting on August 2, 2004, and he would provide a copy to the Parks Board as well. 

 

B.         Skate Park – Update.  Mr. Carr stated the offset fencing is in, and the permanent signage has been ordered and should be in shortly.  He stated additional signage regarding the prohibition of bikes is also going to be installed.  Mr. Campbell inquired if the contractor had come back and regraded around the park, and Mr. Carr stated that has not been done.  He stated we have held money back until that is completed. 

 

C.        Handicap Garden – Update.  Mr. Carr stated he is still awaiting the State of Ohio approving their state capital budget.   

 

D.        Sycamore Park Improvements.

            (1)        Dam Repair (Nature Works Grant Project) – Update.  Mr. Carr stated this project should begin in late August as we wanted to wait until the movie and concert season was completed.  He stated this will probably be done in conjunction with a waterline project that will be going through the park.   

 

E.         DeWolfe Property (Clean Ohio Conservation Grant Project) – Update.  Mr. Carr stated he did not have an update on this project this evening.   

 

F.         Putting/Chipping Green – Update.  Mr. Carr stated the second phase of this project has been put on hold until after the Fall/Winter brochure is completed. 

 

G.        Sycamore Park Tennis Court – Update.  Mr. Carr stated this project has also been put on hold until after the brochure is complete.   

 

5.         RECREATION AND EVENTS.

 

A.        Summer Programs/Special Events.  Mr. Carr stated the summer program has done very well.  He stated we partnered with the Swim Club to offer swimming lessons to our residents and it has been a very successful program.   Mr. Carr stated the Fall/Winter brochure will be distributed to the public on August 19th. 

 

B.         Sports Programs.  Mr. Carr stated he had met with the Superintendent of Schools and the Athletic Directors of both high schools, and they have offered a proposal for morning hours at the Field House at Pickerington Central for the public, and also some Sunday hours.  He stated with the limited amount of time the Field House would be available, it would be hard to sell memberships, so it might be a program we can offer to the public with no fee.  He stated he would be meeting with the City Manger to discuss this program.  Mr. Carr stated the weight room would not be open, but the track would be available for use.  He stated further, he was looking at the possibility of scheduling some of our league games at the Field House on Sundays.  Mr. Carr stated he would have more information in the near future.  Mr. Carr stated he thought the hours would be 5:00 – 7:30 A.M., Monday through Friday, and Sunday would be mostly organized league play. 

 

6.         OTHER BUSINESS.  No other business was brought forward.  

 

7.         ADJOURNMENT.  There being nothing further, Mrs. Shankland moved to adjourn; Mr. Boetcher seconded the motion.  Mr. Campbell, Mrs. Ball, Mr. Boetcher, and Mrs. Shankland voted “Aye.”  Motion carried, 4-0.  The Parks and Recreation Board meeting adjourned at 7:45 P.M., July 26, 2004.
