REGULAR MEETING
5:30 P.M.
2. APPROVAL OF MINUTES of September 8, 2004, Regular Meeting. Mr. Goodrich noted an error on back of page 1, middle part of the section where his name was misspelled. Mr. Goodrich moved to approve with the correction; Ms. Cleary seconded the motion. Ms. Cleary, Ms. Hurley and Mr. Goodrich voted “Aye.” Motion carried, 3-0.
3. COMMUNITY COMMENTS. Ms. Hurley thanked the students for attending the meeting and told them to feel free to ask questions anytime during the meeting.
4. REPORTS.
A. Street Tree Report
Mr. Drobina stated that Mr. Ellis wasn’t at the meeting because he is on vacation. Ms. Hurley asked what O.U.P.S. stands for and Mr. Drobina told her Ohio Utility Protection Service. Ms. Hurley asked what their purpose is. Mr. Drobina stated O.U.P.S. locates lines before you dig.
Mr. Goodrich asked where the blown over Bradford Pear tree is in Stonebridge. Mr. Drobina stated that he didn’t remember the address but the Pear had some wind damage last spring and Mr. Ellis wanted to remove it but the owners did not so the owners agreed to let Mr. Ellis cable it.
Mr. Drobina stated that when Mr. Ellis gets back from vacation they are going to plant another approximately 147 trees for the Fall planting.
5. SCHEDULED MATTERS.
A. Tree Preservation Update
No comments.
B. Arboretum.
Mr. Drobina stated that the Service Committee approved having Keller Farms do the terracing work. He continued that a purchase order has been assigned but Keller Farms has not started the work yet. Mr. Drobina stated Keller Farms should be able to start work on the project within the next few days. Mr. Drobina stated that he would talk with Steve Carr from Parks & Recreation about the showcase for the arboretum.
Ms. Hurley asked if anything was known about the wildflower area. Mr. Drobina stated that when the representative from Keller Farms comes down to do the work he would get together with her and go over that.
6. COMMUNICATION
A. Tree Brochure
Mr. Drobina stated that the brochure was taken to the Service Committee but they did not have time to review it so they are meeting again on October 14 so they should approve it then. Ms. Hurley asked if brochures would be ordered at that point also. Mr. Drobina stated they would.
B. Web Site
Mr. Drobina stated that as soon as the Service Committee approves the brochure it would be put on the web site.
7. OTHER BUSINESS
Mr. Goodrich asked where we are on the budget cycle. Mr. Drobina stated that Mr. Wiseman has been working on the budget for several weeks. Mr. Goodrich asked if any numbers had been given yet. Mr. Drobina stated he doesn’t have any final numbers yet but Mr. Wiseman did get Mr. Ellis’ input on equipment needs.
Ms. Cleary asked if there was any news on the Diley Road planting? Mr. Drobina stated he discussed the issue with Mr. Wiseman but at this time the plans are still real preliminary and there is still plenty of time to review them and put in the trees.
Mr. Drobina stated that up on Hill Road where they cut the bank down, they are going to remove all the scrub trees and take that whole fencerow out. Ms. Hurley asked if that would all be graded and Mr. Drobina stated that it would. Ms. Cleary asked if they are keeping Diley Road still going out to Hill or would that be eventually closed? Mr. Drobina stated that eventually Diley Road would come in there at Drug Mart.
Mr. Drobina stated that Paul Lane is checking into some trees up at Exxon where they are starting a development.
Ms. Hurley asked about landscaping at the new Kohl’s and who was responsible for it. Mr. Drobina stated he would check into that.
8. ADJOURNMENT
There being nothing further, Ms. Hurley moved to adjourn; Mr. Goodrich seconded the motion. Mr. Goodrich, Ms. Cleary, and Ms. Hurley voted “Aye.” Motion carried, 3-0. The Tree Commission adjourned at 5:45 P.M. on October 13, 2004.
