Building Department - Ordinances and Codes

The City of Pickerington adopts local laws called ordinances.  These ordinances are codified into a numbered structure to make it easier to organize, find, understand, and change.  In addition to these local ordinances, the State of Ohio has laws and rules which local municipalities, like Pickerington, can adopt and enforce, such as the building codes.  Pickerington is certified by the Ohio Board of Building Standards to enforce both the 2006 Residential Code of Ohio and the 2007 Ohio Building Code.

For One-, Two-, and Three-family residences, the statewide building code is the 2006 Residential Code of Ohio, which is available online, and is based upon the 2003 International Residential Code.

All other buildings and structures are governed by the 2007 Ohio Building Code, which is also available online, and is based upon the 2006 International Building Code and the family of related I-codes, such as mechanical, plumbing, and energy conservation.  The 2008 National Electrical Code is the current electrical code in Ohio.

All of these Ohio and national codes and standards are available for purchase from the International Code Council.
