Volunteer Energy Aggregation Program Frequently Asked Questions

Volunteer Energy Aggregation Program Frequently Asked Questions

April 20, 2022

1) I understand that Volunteer Energy declared bankruptcy – what happens next for my home’s natural gas account?

The bankruptcy of Volunteer Energy was a surprise and disappointment for the City; however, City residents will not have any interruption to their natural gas services.

2) Now who is my supplier and what is my rate?

The bankruptcy motion does state that customers “have, or will be soon, returned to default service.” At this stage of the bankruptcy process, the City believes that means that the cost reductions/benefits in connection with the aggregation agreement will expire and the customers will be returned to standard rates. Check your next gas bill to see supplier and rate information.

3) Does the City have plans for a new citywide aggregation plan?

Not at this time. With the recent bankruptcy of Volunteer Energy along with the current price volatility in the broader energy market, the City believes that now is not the time for a new aggregation agreement with any supplier. City residents do have the ability to compare natural gas suppliers on their own at https://energychoice.ohio.gov/
